Japanese Nematological
Society
Member
Society of the IFNS
The society (JNS) was formed in 1971. It was affiliated
to the Japanese Society of Applied Entomology and Zoology
(AEZ) until it became an independent organization in 1993.
Prior to 1993, the membership comprised agricultural and
forestry nematologists. After 1993, membership broadened
to include marine nematologists, C. elegans researchers,
and some animal parasitologists.
The objectives of the JNS are to integrate nematology with
parasitology and basic biology as well as environmental
and agricultural sciences. At present, the society is one
of the constituent societies of the Science Council of Japan.
The 15th annual meeting of the Japanese Nematological Society,
organized by Prof. K. Futai of Kyoto University, was held
in Kyoto, on the 13-14th September, 2007. The meeting included
oral presentations and an evening party, where old and new
members of the society exchanged their information and enjoyed
some time off from the scientific sessions. The 16th annual
meeting to be organized by Dr. T. Mizukubo will be held
in Tsukuba in the middle of September, 2008, and the details
of the meeting will be announced soon.
